Elon Musk Just CONFIRMED: “ Ship 25 WIll FLY!” (12 mins)

With the maiden launch of Starship still fresh in the mind, the follow-up flight is set to be just a few months away — this time with the upgraded Booster 9, and the surprising partnership with Ship 25. While the latter doesn’t sport upgrades already employed on sister ships at the production site, the next test will be focused mostly on first stage flight with the booster. And so, when is the confirmed date? Let’s find out in today’s episode.

At the same time that SpaceX is producing more Starship vehicles than ever before, with a new ship and launcher soon to be finished, repairs following the first Starship flight and preparations for the second launch are proceeding at Starbase.
After some testing at the Masseys test site, Ship 25 is now at the suborbital launch site in preparation for a six-engine Static Fire test. Ship 25 is the current star of the show.
The effectiveness of the flight termination system (FTS) was one of the key problems found during Starship’s initial flight. In the event of a malfunction, the mechanism is designed to disassemble the vehicle tanks while it is in flight. This technology, however, did not perform as intended during that initial flight, only puncturing the tanks with holes rather than completely dismantling them.
Prior to Starship’s upcoming launch, SpaceX plans to re-certify this system. On a booster test tank at the Massey test facility, it appears the corporation has tested it.
Elon Musk noted that the upgrades to the launch pad should be finished in a month, followed by another month of testing before the next test flight, and that Ship 25 is currently at the launch site and awaiting a six-engine static fire test.

Despite multiple rollbacks for more changes, the launch of Booster 7 and Ship 24 came after more than a month of pad flow. Even with the few months of pad modifications needed after Booster 7 dug a hole and ignited a “rock tornado” during its launch, the next campaign will be finished in a rather short amount of time.

With the “rapidly” and entirely reusable tag bearing the objective of launching every day from the same pad in future years, the decrease of the pad flow will be a theme for Starship.

By putting a water-cooled steel plate and deluge system under the orbital launch mount (OLM), SpaceX is attempting to prevent the flying concrete of the first launch in the interim. According to Musk, work has been proceeding at the launch location in recent weeks to prepare for its installation before the steel plates are brought there in about a month.

A month of pad testing would follow after the repairs to the pad are finished, Musk said in a Twitter update that highlighted SpaceX’s highlights video of the test flight. That timeframe was given.

Tests with the modifications at the pad, the integration of Booster 9 on the OLM, a number of possible static fire tests, and the full-stack integration of the Ship 25 are all part of this testing.

A six-engine Static Fire test will be performed by Ship 25 at the suborbital launch site after it has already passed cryo proofing at the Masseys test facility.
