Imagine a world where robots are not just machines that perform specific tasks, but humanoid beings that can do anything a human being can do, and even more. Well, that future might not be too far away, thanks to Tesla’s groundbreaking project – Optimus, also known as Tesla Bot.
The Birth of a Vision
It all started on Aug 19, 2021, at Tesla’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) Day event. Elon Musk, the visionary CEO of Tesla, took the stage and unveiled the concept of Optimus to the world. Musk boldly claimed that Optimus “has the potential to be more significant than the vehicle business over time.”

Fast forward to Apr 7, 2022, at the Cyber Rodeo event held in the Tesla Giga Texas manufacturing facility. A display showcasing Optimus became the highlight of the event. The Verge went a step further, referring to Tesla’s past unfulfilled ideas and described the Optimus reveal as a “bizarre and brilliant bit of tomfoolery.”
However, the second AI Day event showcased tangible progress with the prototypes, leading some commentators to praise the advancements made by Tesla. Nevertheless, there were critics who argued that other companies had already achieved similar milestones in robotics and questioned whether Tesla could outpace its competitors.
