Insiders at the multi-billionaire’s electric car business Tesla claim that top-secret “Project 42” was supposed to be a glass-walled structure close to the company’s headquarters outside of Austin, Texas. One rendering included a spectacular glass structure with bedrooms, baths, and a kitchen that was described internally as Musk’s home and resembled Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue Apple store. In a different version, the Tesla facility was visible behind a twisted hexagon on beachfront land.

Another depiction of the structure, the blueprints for which underwent numerous changes, included a waterfall feature as part of the landscaping and a car approaching the building that appeared to be very similar to Tesla’s yet-to-be-launched Cybertruck. A museum was even rumored to be included in the designs by those familiar with the project.

Some workers became concerned about a multimillion-dollar purchase of the large-format glass panels used on building facades, which prompted a legal team from Tesla and the firm’s board of directors to launch an internal investigation into whether company funds were improperly used for the purchase. However, reports could not verify delivery of the glass or the project’s status, according to certain insiders, therefore it was thought about canceling the order and using the glass for other uses instead.

At the moment, Musk is residing in Boca Chica, Texas, in a home owned by his space exploration company, SpaceX. A housing start-up by the name of Boxabl produced the $50,000 prefab tiny house, which is barely 400 square feet big.
